about

Improvised over two evenings with voice and guitar in 1999.

For the first evening, I started in A minor, and added a sharp for each song until I was in A# minor.
On the second evening, I reversed the process in major keys, starting with C# major and removing a sharp until I ended up in C
After I finished with a song, I deleted the source files and started the next. No turning back, no second guessing.

This has always been a free download on my website. There were 2 or 3 physical copies made, but due to the lofi and improvised nature, I've never felt it was as good as anything else I released.

But there's something to it. Something that made me release it in the first place. Something that made it one of my more popular albums, despite it being so rough and low quality (both guitars and vocals were recorded with a radio shack microphone into a Roland VS840, which I used for all effects). There's something sort of visceral about it. I wasn't suicidal when I made this, but I wasn't too far removed from that part of my life that I couldn't write about it clearly.

Maybe one day I will revise and re-record this (I can certainly sing a hell of a lot better these days). Or maybe recreate the experiment and do another improvised song cycle like this. In the meantime, I hope enjoy this for what it is.
